Why we love Denisse
Denisse uses her lens to show the beauty in marginalised groups and locations attached to harmful assumptions. Whether she’s photographing Uganda’s albino community, androgynous models in Turkey or a tender group embrace in Benin, she approaches her subjects with compassion and a fierce desire to challenge common perceptions.
Who is Denisse Ariana Pérez?
Born in the Dominican Republic and based in Barcelona, Denisse’s global perspective helps her meld people and places together. Her training in Art Direction means she takes a conceptual approach to her work, uniting documentary, art and fashion photography in her shoots. “I like to capture real people as much as I can, yet I don’t document them in a traditional documentary style,” Pérez explains. “I like to add fantasy to what is already there.”
“As a photographer, I give a face to culture.”
“I make it my personal mission to only focus on highlighting people’s beauty and portraying them in a dignified way.”
